Agile
In February 2001, seventeen representatives of various methodologies met in Utah to try and find common ground between the various approaches they took to development. They were all focused on finding better ways to do software development than had been common practice in the industry. The result of this gathering was the Agile Manifesto which describes the common principles shared by all of these methodologies.
Collectively, these methodologies are now referred to as being "Agile", to differentiate them from the previous industry standard practices which just hadn't been working. The methodologies included under the Agile "umbrella" are the following.
  • Scrum
  • Extreme Programming (XP)
  • Lean Development
  • Feature Driven Development (FDD)
  • Dynamic System Development Methodology (DSDM)
  • Pragmatic Programming
  • Crystal
  • Adaptive Software Development
  • Agile Modeling
